Dead Beat Escapement Vienna Regulator c.1890

‘featuring finials reminiscent of the Arkwright mills’

Note that the door and crest finials are styled in the form of bobbins, suggesting the industrial heritage if Britain’s textile mills, Arkwright’s being the most notable.

A Vienna Regulator, powered by a pair of weights and wound using a fine winding handle. This is clock has quality dead-beat escapement, meaning there is no recoil from the pallet assembly, which transmits the to and fro, or ‘tick-tock’, from the pendulum to the escape wheel. This means there is less friction as the clock runs and therefore a more accurate timekeeping device.

With no maker’s name to speak of, we cannot be sure as to the location of manufacture, but we believe it was made for a northern market, hence the unusual finials.
